Rolando Santos, Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services videographer/photographer, received three national awards in the recent Videographer Awards 2015 Competition.

Santos received the Award of Excellence for his short documentary on the University’s innovative collaboration with México’s Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán de Guadalajara.  The documentary includes workshop and concert footage of the experience.

He also received the Award of Distinction for his animated campaign, “A Tale of Distinction,” now airing in support of the University’s Fall enrollment.

Santos’ third award was an Honorable Mention for his video documenting the University’s annual Celebration of Life, which recognizes, students, faculty and staff who have passed away in the previous year.

The award-winning videos are available for viewing on the University’s dedicated YouTube channel, located at youtube.com/user/txamiu

Santos joined the University’s PR office this past January.  With almost five years experience in television production, he brings his creativity and enthusiasm for film and photography back to his alma mater. He holds a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from TAMIU in Communications with a minor in Marketing. Santos previously worked at Laredo Community College.

TAMIU director of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services, Steve Harmon, said Santos’ talents are a tremendous strength for the University.

“Rolando has a keen ability to visualize the University’s multiple compelling stories.  Working with our team, he creates videos that are clever, insightful and often touching. He has helped to tremendously elevate our messaging to a new level of community engagement,” Harmon said.

Over 1300 entrants from the U.S. and around the world vied for the Videographer Awards Competition.  The Award of Excellence is awarded to those projects deemed written, produced, shot and edited in an exceptional manner. The Award of Distinction is awarded to those projects that exceeded industry standards.  The Honorable Mention distinction was awarded to about 6 percent of entries.

The Competition is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, an international organization of several thousand marketing, communication, advertising, public relations, media production and freelance professionals. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds high standards of excellence and serves as a benchmark for the industry.

Earlier this year, TAMIU’s PR office received two awards in the Public Relations Society of America Del Oro Awards;  three awards from the 2015 International AVA Digital Awards Competition; seven awards from the National 30th Annual Educational Advertising Awards (EAA) and four American Advertising Awards (known as ADDYs) from the American Advertising Federation -- bringing its total awards to date to 19.
