Welcome Week, Involvement Week Underway

 

The Fall semester and Welcome Week are underway at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), offering events and activities to welcome students to the new semester. TAMIU Welcome Week 2015 kicked off Tuesday, Aug. 18 and Involvement Week 2015 starts Monday, Aug. 24.

All events are free and open to TAMIU students.

Welcome Week 2015 began with a “Welcome Back BBQ” Tuesday. On  Wednesday, students could receive their very own custom tile at the “Custom Tiles and Information Tent.”

Damon Brown, spray can artist, will be at TAMIU in the area between Canseco Hall and Pellegrino Hall Thursday, Aug. 20 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Students can enjoy a free show and take home a piece of art, while supplies last, for their home or residence hall.

Also on campus Thursday is comedian and magician Brian Miller. Miller who will perform in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall from 7 – 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20.

The following week, Monday, Aug. 24 – Thursday, Aug. 27, is known as “Involvement Week.” Students have the opportunity to learn how to become involved in any of 90+ campus organizations. All events take place in the Student Center rotunda.

During “Take the Next Step!” on Monday, Aug. 24, students can visit with various leadership programs and learn how to become a well rounded and prepared TAMIU graduate.

The “Student Organization Fair” will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Students will be able to visit with dozens of student organizations. This event is sponsored by SOLE and the TAMIU Student Government Association.

During “Community Service Fair,” sponsored by the Office of Student Conduct and Community Engagement, students can connect with agencies from the community looking for volunteers. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The weeklong event concludes with a Study Abroad Fair, Thursday, Aug. 27. This will be a one-stop-shop for international engagement. Students are invited to meet with other students who have traveled abroad and start planning their own experience.
