Due to the approaching weather front that is predicted to bring rain and possible thunderstorms to the area overnight,  a decision was made at noon Friday to officially move the Laredo Phl's First Symphony in the Park free concert this Saturday, Nov. 7 from Blas Castañeda Park indoors to the comfort of the Texas A&M International University Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The music will begin with the TAMIU Guitar Ensemble and TAMIU Mariachi Internacional providing pre-concert entertainment. The symphony will take the stage at approximately 7:30 p.m. and begin the program of light music which will feature patriotic marches and the Armed Forces Salute. Some well known orchestral classics will be interwoven with fun popular works, ending with the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky.

“We are very disappointed that the concert had to be moved indoors,” said Board President Tatiana Friar, “It was our dream and hope that an event like this brought out into the community in such a wonderful space as Blas Castañeda Park would be a wonderful gift to the community.”

The logistics of a major outdoor concert were being coordinated with the City of Laredo Parks & Leisure Division who were partnering with the Laredo Phil to present this event.

“This is sure to be a crowd pleasing concert. We are only sorry that we had to move it indoors because of potential rain,” said Music Director Brendan Townsend

This 35th Season is dubbed "Sounds of our Heritage" and is inspired primarily by the various countries whose flags have flown over the City of Laredo. While focusing primarily on music of the United States, each of the other flags will be represented in one or more of the season’s concerts.

Next on the Laredo Phil’s performance season is "Celebrate the Season," Sunday December 6, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the  Guadalupe and Lilia Martínez Fine Arts Center, Laredo Community College.  This is a concert of light seasonal music including traditional favorites "Sleigh Ride," Nutcracker Suite, White Christmas and many, many more. Tickets are $20 / $15 (Seniors).
