On Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., Laredo Community College’s Guadalupe and Lilia Martínez Fine Arts Center theater will be filled with joyous music as student singers from across the city join with the Laredo Phil in concert to present “Celebrate the Season.”

This concert is made possible by the Guadalupe and Lilia Martínez Foundation.

“Celebrate the Season” follows on the extraordinarily successful concert held in honor of the city’s veterans in November. Though originally scheduled to be held in Blas Castañeda Park, the concert was relocated to Texas A&M International University because of inclement weather.

“This was one of the most brilliant concerts that this city has heard,” longtime music supporter Roberto Coronado said, “I am really excited to hear the next one.”

Concert tickets can be purchased at the door. Ticket price for adults is $20 and for senior citizens $15. Students, as always, are invited to attend free of charge.

Sunday’s concert includes a wide variety of very familiar holiday melodies from Sleigh Ride to a medley of tunes taken from such movies as “Miracle on 34th Street,” “The Polar Express” and more.

“Around the World at Christmas” gets its first Laredo performance and includes holiday music from various countries and traditions including “O Tannenbaum,” the “Hanukkah Song,” and “Go Tell it on the Mountain.”

A vital feature of this year’s musical celebration is the participation of musicians from the Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts. The VMT Philharmonic and chorale will sit side-by-side with their professional mentors to perform the first movement of “The Christmas Symphony.”

These groups will also be joined by singers from the First Baptist Church (FBC) Choir.

“It is a great opportunity for our kids and the local singing enthusiasts,” said FBC choir director and LPO Tuba player John Reimund.

The afternoon’s Grand Finale will add singers from United High School choirs, and anyone in the audience who cares to join in, to perform the magnificent “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah.

The concert begins promptly at 3:00 p.m. in the LCC Martínez Fine Arts Center.
