CIA and Hollywood Topic of Nov. 15 TAMIU Presidential Lecture Series Speaker

The second installment of the new Texas A&M International University Presidential Lecture Series will feature author Dr. Tricia Jenkins and her presentation, “Get Smart: How the CIA Works with Hollywood” Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.  The lecture is hosted by University College.

A gathering will commence at 6 p.m. 

Admission is free and open to the public.

Dr. Jenkins’ latest research focuses on the ways the CIA works with Hollywood in order to boost its public image. Her book, The CIA and Hollywood: How the Agency Shapes Film and Television (Second Edition), was released by The University of Texas Press in March 2016. Copies will be available for sale onsite.

Her areas of research include the ways that spy television series worked to construct shifting messages about U.S. nationalism and gender, as well as the ways that gender and sexuality function in reality television series and teen movies. Her work has been published in The Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television; Media, Culture and Society; The Journal of Popular Film and Television; The Journal of Popular Culture, and The Journal of American Culture, among others.

Jenkins also serves as the book review Editor for The Journal of Popular Culture. Her areas of research include television and culture, the CIA and Hollywood, the spy genre, feminist media criticism, and reality television. She is a faculty member at Texas Christian University.

The next lecture is scheduled for Wednesday, March 8, 2017, with Dr. Khalid Khan followed by a lecture by Laredoan Maite Gomez-Rejón on Wednesday, March 29, 2017.
