Noted Public/Community Health Researcher Dr. Adelita Cantú Lectures at TAMIU Oct. 19

A nationally recognized expert in public/community health nursing and clinical nursing research will present a guest lecture at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Thursday, Oct. 19 from 2- 4 p.m. in TAMIU’s Student Center Theatre, room 236.

The presentation by Dr. Adelita G. Cantú, associate professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, is made possible by a joint Laredo Community College-TAMIU project, the Title V Building Scholars Program, partially supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.  It is hosted by the TAMIU College of Nursing and Health Sciences. All are welcome to attend the lecture, offered at no charge.  

Dr. Cantú’s program of science in teaching, service and research has been focused on building healthy communities through the enhancement of public and community health.  Her teaching is grounded in the Socio-Ecological Model as a framework to prevent disease and promote health and wellbeing at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of prevention. Through her teaching, research, and service, she has impacted health in families, neighborhoods and communities.

The Title V - Building Scholars partnership between LCC and TAMIU is focused on increasing the number of Hispanic and low-income students attaining post-secondary certifications, associate and bachelor’s degrees. It aims to prepare students to compete for positions in graduate and professional schools, thus increasing the competency and diversity of the workforce.
