Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has been ranked among the Top 20 Public Schools in the just-published 2018 U. S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges ranking.

TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said rankings are often an important part of any student’s research into selecting a university for study.

“We’re pleased to figure strongly in this and other rankings, which are often the first research step as students begin their path to selecting their higher education destination.  While this is important, we also urge potential students to visit TAMIU or other campuses, meet with faculty and students, and really find out what support systems are in place for them as they begin their transition to their selected campus,” Dr. Arenaz said.

The U. S. News and World Report notes that public schools like TAMIU offer discounted tuition to state residents and provide experiences ranging from the liberal arts to research capabilities. The ranking notes TAMIU’s student faculty ratio, 20:1; 60% female student population, and campus safety, among other indicators.

In the 2018 Best Colleges ranking, A&M System sister campus West Texas A&M University in Canyon was ranked 30, University of Texas-Permian Basin 35 and University of North Texas 38.

An additional ranking placed TAMIU 70th out of 141 campuses studied in Regional Universities West. TAMIU ranked above Our Lady of the Lake University, 86; UT-Tyler, 91, and University of North Texas, 95.

The U.S. News ranking system is based on two anchors: statistical quantitative and qualitative measures that education experts say are steady indicators of academic quality, and the authors’ researched view of what they believe matters in education.

Last month, Washington Monthly Magazine published its 2017 College Guide, ranking TAMIU fourth in its Top Ten, rising from eighth last year.  TAMIU also rocketed up 27 places in the College Guide’s National Master’s Universities listing to 68 of 632 institutions ranked.  Last year, TAMIU ranked 95.
