Holy Week is Theme for TAMIU’s ‘Music on the Menu’

Holy Week will be the theme for Texas A&M International University’s ‘Music on the Menu’ Wednesday, March 28 as a TAMIU faculty member presents a live organ improvisation to images of the Station of the Cross.

Dr. Colin Campbell, University organist and assistant professor of music and organ, will perform at the lunchtime concert, entitled, “Stations of the Cross: Images and Sound,” at 12:10 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. The concert will last approximately 45 minutes. Admission is free and open to the public.

‘Music on the Menu; presents an opportunity for the community to take a lunch break while listening to a performance by a renowned artist and TAMIU faculty member.

Dr. Campbell is the composer of “Rapsodia,” a haunting musical composition that became the soundtrack of the KLRN produced film, “Rhapsody on the Rio.” He is also composer in residence for the Laredo Phil. 

A native of South Africa, Campbell holds his Ph.D. in Church Music from North-West University of Potchefstroom, South Africa. His Master of Music in Performing Arts-Organ was earned cum laude at the University of Port Elizabeth (UPE) in South Africa. He received the Post Graduate Award for the Most Outstanding Dissertation in any discipline. 

His Bachelor of Music was also received cum laude at UPE. He also holds the Performer’s Licentiate in Organ UPLM (Unisa) with distinction from the University of South Africa.

He is the recipient of numerous academic and performance awards including North-West University’s Institutional Award for Ph.D. Studies; a First Prize in Organ Category, National Classical Music Competition and is a research grant recipient for Ph.D. studies in church music from the South African Church Organists Society, among others.

In 2016 he received the Rotary Foundation International Paul Harris Fellow Award.

Campbell is a member of the American Guild of Organists.
