TAMIU Spanish Club Presents Tribute to Radio Soap Opera Tradition Tuesday, April 17

Anteojos de Pasión

A tribute to the tradition of radio soap operas in Spanish will come to life during a theater presentation at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in Student Center 236.

The theater production, featuring members of the student organization, Club de Español Siglo XXI, is free and open to the public. The event and presentation will be in Spanish.

The presentation will feature a staging of the radio soap opera, “Anteojos de Pasión” (Passion Glasses) by Félix Ramón Bravo Portocarrero.

“The act will be a tribute to the world of radionovela, a dramatic form that has been popular in the Hispanic-American culture,” said Dr. José Cardóna-López, TAMIU Regents Professor and professor of Spanish American Literature, “Those who listened to the transmission of this radio soap opera via TAMIU’s podcast or through Stereo 91 Radio Station in Laredo and Nuevo Laredo, will now be able to listen to and watch it live as a play, as if each spectator were in the recording studio.”

The Club de Español Siglo XXI is one of more than 130 TAMIU student organizations. In the past, the organization has presented film showings, readings as well as dance and music recitals celebrating the rich heritage of Latin America.

For more information, please contact Cardona-López at 956.326.2690 email cardona@tamiu.edu or visit offices in Pellegrino Hall, room 314F.
