TAMIU Professor Honored At International Honor Society State Convention

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) associate professor of Spanish and Translation Dr. Lola Orellano Norris was honored for her literacy achievements during the recent 89thAnnual Texas State Organization (TSO) Convention of Delta Kappa Gamma in Waco, TX.

The convention brought together Texas members of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (DKG), an organization of women educators with worldwide reach.  During the convention, Dr. Orellano Norris of the Alpha Nu chapter (Laredo) received the Member in Print award for her book, “General Alonso de León’s Expedition into Texas (1686-1690).”

Dr. Orellano Norris was only one of seven members from Texas to receive this honor.

“I am deeply honored to have received this award and recognition from my peers. It is especially meaningful because DKG is a well-respected international organization of key women educators with deep roots in Texas,” said Dr. Orellano Norris.

Established in 1929 in Austin, TX., the professional honor societyboasts more than 77,000 members from 17 countries around the world. Its mission is to promote the professional and personal growth of women educators, as well as excellence in education.

The three-day convention featured various innovative speakers including Baylor University School of Law Dean Leah Teague, metalworker and reality TV star Jimmy Don Holmes, International DKG representative June Bowers and motivational speaker Wendy Corbett. Over 20 breakout sessions explored topics in communications and technology, educational excellence, empowering women, legislative advocacy, leadership, and more.
