The Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU-SBDC)  will enter into an innovative advising partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)  with the MileOne International Business Assistance Center in ceremonies scheduled Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 10:30 a.m.at MileOne offices, 1312 Houston Street downtown.

The partnership brings the advising resources of the TAMIU-SBDC to MileOne Incubator clients, enabling one-on-one, confidential, no-cost advising to all incubator clients by TAMIU-SBDC’s certified advisors.  This is an expansion of the collaboration and partnership between the two, said Michael González, TAMIU-SBDC director.

“The TAMIU-SBDC advisors will act as ‘first responders’ to the MileOne Incubator clients. We’ll assist in the initial assessment of these businesses, and then work with the resources of MileOne and the TAMIU-SBDC to assist businesses and their specific needs in order to help them to succeed  in taking their business to the next level, ” González explained.

He said the partnership is a natural extension of the TAMIU-SBDC mission.

“The services of the MileOne IBAC (Incubator) and the TAMIU-SBDC make for a powerful combination of services to spur the growth and success of incubator clients, and links to the TAMIU- SBDC mission of ‘Building the Texas Economy One Business At A Time,’ ” González said.

He outlined the process for MileOne Incubator clients.

“We act as the initial advising partner.  Much like a diagnosis, we’ll assess the needs of the business, and then will work with specialists both within MileOne and the TAMIU -SBDC, to assist these businesses to meet these identified needs. Once someone becomes a client of the MileOne incubator, they also become an SBDC client. Even after a business matriculates from the incubator setting, they continue as TAMIU-SBDC clients because we consider our clients ‘SBDC Clients for Life, ’ ” he concluded.
