TAMIU Presents Early Voting Oct. 30-31, Annual Halloween Fest

Early Voting

This year, Laredo will have an opportunity to participate in early voting at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and to trick-or-treat with their families on campus at the University’s student-organized, annual Halloween Fest.

Early voting, organized by the Webb County Elections Administration, will be held Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct. 30-31, from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center foyer. It is open to the public. Anyone who is registered to vote in Webb County may vote early at TAMIU.

Halloween Fest, a family-friendly event organized by the TAMIU Campus Activities Board (CAB), will be on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 6-9 p.m. in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center lawn. The event is free and open to the public.

Lilia Cantú, TAMIU University College program coordinator, said one of the early voting dates will coincide with the Halloween Fest this year to encourage festival participants to vote early.

“TAMIU is a voter friendly campus, so we will also host festive events including a ‘Parade to the Polls’ and a ‘Party at the Polls’ with student-led entertainment, games, and giveaways to celebrate our right to vote,” Cantú said.

The TAMIU ALL-In Task Force, which is presenting the fun events surrounding early voting, is a group of student organization members, faculty, Student Affairs representatives and community partners working together to increase student voting rates, Cantú explained.

Dr. Nicolas Hudson, TAMIU Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement director, said the Halloween Fest features food and game booths, entertainment and a costume contest.

“The community is invited to join us for free family-friendly fun and costume contests, activities, trick or treating, games and more,” said Hudson.

Snacks such as pizza, corn in a cup, fajita tacos, ice cream, Mexican hot dogs, nachos, tostadas and much more, will be sold. After you’ve had your fill of snacks, enjoy some games such as a Stranger Things-themed Loteria, a dunk tank, face painting, karaoke, paintball and more.

Attendees are invited to enjoy performances by the University’s Glee Club, Dance Club, the House of Collector Performers group and ballet Folklorico students.

The evening will be capped off with a costume contest. Participants are strongly encouraged to stick to appropriate costumes. Participants can compete in one of four age categories: 0-2 years, 3-6, 7-10 and TAMIU students.
