Approximately 844 million people in the world still lack basic water service, according to UNICEF, and Weathermatic, a world leader in water conservation innovation through smart irrigation solutions, wants Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) students to help change this.

TAMIU students are encouraged to apply for a full-trip scholarship to El Salvador to help drill a fresh water well and teach hygiene classes. The scholarship and well drilling program are an initiative of Weathermatic; SSC Services for Education, TAMIU’s campus maintenance partner; and Living Water International (LWI), a nonprofit organization that builds and restores wells around the world.

Scholarship recipients selected from TAMIU and campuses in The Texas A&M University System will travel to El Salvador  July 21-27. The application deadline is Sunday, March 24.

Activities students will experience while in El Salvador include building community partnerships; outreach and education; learning about the country of El Salvador; and working in community building and collaborative projects. Students will also gain an insight into non-profit operations in a global environment.

The scholarship includes airfare, accommodations, all in-country transportation, all meals, as well as emergency travel insurance.

While students are encouraged to learn some Spanish for travel, they do not need to be fluent. Living Water International staff will be available to translate during the trip, when possible.
