Financial aid is still available for students applying for Fall registration at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).

Dr. Minita Ramírez, TAMIU vice president for Student Success, said students are encouraged to apply now for financial aid using the FAFSA www.fafsa.ed.gov .

Fall 2019 classes at TAMIU start Tuesday, Aug. 27 and applications for admissions and registration are still underway.

“We encourage students to visit our Financial Aid office as soon as possible to learn what type of aid they will qualify for the Fall.  Prospective and current students can also visit the TAMIU Financial Aid Office website at www.tamiu.edu/financialaid ,” Dr. Ramírez said.

Last year, TAMIU awarded more than $65 million in financial aid, Ramírez said. About 82.7 percent of TAMU students receive financial aid and 20 percent of incoming freshmen students receive the Presidential Scholarship.

One of the biggest misconceptions students have is that they believe they will not qualify for financial aid because both of their parents have an income, Ramírez said.

“Students are still encouraged to apply for financial aid as there are various federal, state and institutional aid programs. In addition, students may qualify for on campus employment which they may not know about if they do not apply,” Ramírez said, “A student’s family’s income, family size, number of family members attending college in their household, as well as available funds in their bank and investments are all factors taken into consideration by the Department of Education.”

Students and parents visiting TAMIU’s Financial Aid Office receive personalized assistance with completing their FAFSA - financial aid application and answering questions about documents they need to submit, Ramírez said.

“Once all necessary documents are submitted, students usually receive a financial aid award answer in as little as one week. The critical issues is timing. The sooner you get your FAFSA done, the sooner you can make the transition to TAMIU,” Ramírez said.

“The time is now for prospective and current students and their parents to visit us, get answers to any questions they may have, and complete their financial aid application,” Ramírez said, “Our staff is dedicated to assisting families in their application process and we look forward to meeting with them.”

Fall Registration is underway at TAMIU. Register now and choose from nearly 100 online and onsite undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts and sciences, business, nursing and education. Classes begin Aug. 27. Late Registration continues through Monday, Sept. 2.

TAMIU celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2019-2020 under the Celebration theme, “A World of Difference.”  It has a robust alumni base of 24,000+ graduates here and around the globe.
