This summer Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) experienced a double-digit increase in summer session enrollment, boding well for the start of Fall classes next Tuesday, Aug. 27.

While summer enrollments are substantially lower that the longer Fall and Spring semesters, TAMIU saw a 15.47% increase in enrollment to 5,390, up from 4,668 in 2018.  Semester Credit Hours were also up 17.24% from 18,594 in 2018 to 21,799.

This week, TAMIU’s continuous growth was recognized by The Chronicle of Higher Educationin its 2019 Almanac edition published Aug. 18.  The Chronicle reviewed growth at higher education institutions from 2007-2017 and has nationally ranked TAMIU at 20thamong 245 Master’s Colleges, noting an enrollment growth of 47.5% from Fall 2007 (5,179) to Fall 2017 (7,640). Three of the Chronicle’s Top 20 institutions studied in “Fastest-Growing Colleges, 2007-17” were in Texas.

TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said he believes the University’s growth will continue into the Fall and identified three crucial factors.

“As the Chronicle notes, the common factors in growth among the Fastest Growing Colleges are in place at TAMIU:  we have rising demand for higher education in our region, we have rapidly increased our online enrollment and we have expanded graduate degree offerings.  These have been pivotal to our growth and we believe will figure prominently in a healthy Fall enrollment,” Dr. Arenaz said.

“As we celebrate our 50thAnniversary this year, it’s especially heartwarming for us to see that our mission continues to be delivered and our impact continues to grow.  We are changing lives daily and that’s something we will always celebrate,” Arenaz  observed.

TAMIU will hold a ribbon-cutting for its 18th campus building, the new Academic Innovation Center, on Monday, Aug. 26 at 10:30 a.m.  The Texas A&M University System Chancellor, John Sharp, and Chairman of the A&M Board of Regents, Elaine Mendoza, will  attend.
