Texas A&M International University Police Department (TAMIU PD) recently held a badge pinning ceremony on the University’s campus to welcome three new police officers to its force.

Armando Cadena, Ashley García and Joseph Pérez became full-time officers of the TAMIU PD after TAMIU PD Chief Fructuoso San Miguel recognized them at the ceremony and attending family members pinned badges on the officers’ respective uniforms to symbolize public trust.

Also, at the ceremony, guests celebrated the retirement of Officer Roel González, who served nine years in the TAMIU PD force and a combined 40 years as an officer for both the Laredo Police Department and TAMIU.

San Miguel praised González for his years of dedication to his law enforcement career and wished him well on his retirement.

“Admired by his fellow colleagues and the community, this is not a farewell but a joyous occasion for you, your family and friends. Always remember after you retire that this is still your home away from home,” San Miguel said.

González began his law enforcement career in 1979 and retired in 2010 with 31 years of service with the Laredo Police Department. He joined TAMIU in November, 2010 and served on the TAMIU PD force until August of this year.

The TAMIU PD has a force of 24 full-time police officers. It is committed to providing the TAMIU community with a safe and secure learning and working environment by providing the highest quality police services, including prompt response, availability of officers and information and instructional services.
