While the global pandemic placed numerous obstacles to overcome, these limitations did not hold back the dreams and talents of 10 Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) senior Art majors.

A three-week, virtual showcase began Wednesday, April 21 and continues through May 5. It highlights artwork created by this unique group of students. View the exhibit by visiting https://go.tamiu.edu/6-feet-apart.

The aptly titled exhibit, “6 Feet Apart,” features student-centered artwork in a variety of mediums. The work was often created and crafted from a distance, as opposed to the traditional studio setting. Each week, the online gallery is refreshed to include additional student artwork.

The weekly schedule of exhibiting students is as follows:

Wednesday, April 21 - Esmeralda Cantú and Allison Villarreal

Wednesday, April 28 - Fernando Castillo, Sofia Nieto, Edgar Saldaña and Nehemias Santos

Wednesday, May 5 - Joseph Benavides, Briana Cabrales, Elkin Cortez Cab and Travis González.

In addition to the exhibit, a printed silkscreen poster by Cabrales and Villarreal was also created for the exhibit.

Currently, TAMIU’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts Visual Arts program offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Art, as well as a B.A. in Art with All-Level Certification. Minors in Art History and Studio Art are also offered.

Several courses are available to students including courses in Art History, Ceramics, Design, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking and more.
