There's still time to apply for Fall semester at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and students can also apply for various opportunities to help fund their higher education, said Laura Elizondo, TAMIU director of Financial Aid.

Late Registration continues at TAMIU through this Friday, Aug. 27 for undergraduate and graduate students. To learn more about TAMIU admissions requirements, visit: www.tamiu.edu/admissioninfo.shtml

Elizondo said students applying for Fall admission can still submit Financial Aid applications between now and June 30, 2022.

"Prospective students can complete and submit their FAFSA application at studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to determine if they qualify for grants and loans for Fall, Spring and Summer courses at TAMIU," she said, "They may also apply for student employment on campus," Elizondo said.

Currently, there is a surplus of on-campus, student employment opportunities available at TAMIU, Elizondo said.

"A lot of offices are looking for students to work on campus and there are still many positions open," she said.

While students await approximately 10 days to receive their Financial Aid award letter, they can help pay for their courses by applying for TAMIU Emergency Loans and installment plans, Elizondo said.

Additionally, Fall 2021 students admitted to TAMIU who meet selection criteria can still benefit from the federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) appropriations, formerly known as the CARES grant, Elizondo said.

TAMIU CARES applications for TAMIU students enrolled for the Fall 2021 semester opened Aug. 9, and close Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m.

To date, TAMIU CARES has provided TAMIU student support in excess of $9 million. This Fall, it expects to award over $7 million.

HEERF student emergency aid grants are used to address any component of the cost of attendance or for emergency costs arising from the Pandemic, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental healthcare) and child care.  Eligible students may apply once during each long semester they are enrolled. When applying, students are required to attest to their eligible, Pandemic-related needs.

Eligible undergraduate and graduate students can access the TAMIU CARES application by visiting www.tamiu.edu/cares.

TAMIU is also assisting students who lack home computer access through a no-cost, laptop loaner program, Elizondo noted.

"This is the second year that we are offering loaner laptops for students through the Fall 2021 semester," Elizondo said, "Online applications can be accessed by visiting go.tamiu.edu/laptop.

Through the program, students can access a Dell Latitude 3410 laptop with 14” display, camera and microphone.  It is pre-loaded with software suitable for TAMIU classes and has online and cloud connectivity.

"In addition, this Fall at TAMIU, degree-seeking students can benefit from a pilot program providing all TAMIU required textbooks and course materials free of charge," Elizondo said.

The pilot program, dubbed "TAMIU Books IncludED," offers students and their families substantial savings, and champions TAMIU students’ journeys to success.

"Now through Friday, Aug. 27 is the time to apply for Fall classes at TAMIU and we highly encourage students to do so," Elizondo concluded, "We encourage students to avail themselves of the opportunities that we offer so that they can make their higher education dreams a reality."

TAMIU’s Fall semester 2021 started Monday, Aug. 23.  The TAMIU Fall plan is focused on a return to a full and vibrant on-campus experience for all students, faculty, and staff at its 300-acre northeast Laredo campus.  Late registration ends Friday, Aug. 27. For detailed registration information, visit go.tamiu.edu/registration21
