Laredo Theater Guild International (LTGI) in cooperation with Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and sponsored by the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Foundation, is pleased to return to the stage with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s beloved Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods.  The show opened July 22, 2022.

Continuing performances at TAMIU’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theater are Wednesday through Saturday, July 27 – July 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 31 at 3 p.m. General Admission tickets are $25 and Senior/Student Tickets are $20. Tickets can be purchased online at www.laredotheaterguild.org and at the door starting one hour before showtime.

This epic adventure follows the story of several well-known Grimm’s fairytale characters, the center of which is the baker and his wife who cannot have a child due to a witch’s curse on their family. They are promised to be free of this curse by a witch who wishes to be young and beautiful forever. In contrast to ordinary fairytales, the characters are not granted their wishes, rather, they must work for them as they travel into the woods.

This musical masterpiece features Laredo and TAMIU favorites including Dr. Joseph Crabtree (Narrator/Mysterious Man), Allie Howland (Cinderella), Alex Lopez (Jack), Karol Batey (Baker’s Wife), Chibbi Orduna (Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf), Celia Hernandez (Witch), Heather Benavides (Jack’s Mother/Cinderella’s Mother), Stephanie Solis (Stepmother), John Maxstadt (Cinderella’s Father), Alex Meza (Rapunzel’s Prince), Kaitlyn Mata (Little Red Ridinghood) and Isabella Lopez (Rapunzel). LTGI welcomes San Antonian Rene Sandoval (Baker). Also cast are Kailey Smith (Florinda), Lisa Martinez (Lucinda), Hacel Arias (Granny), Kristina Soliz (Steward), Celina Oliveira (Sleeping Beauty), Allyson Tellez (Snow White), and Amalie Verastigui (Milky White).

Into the Woods is directed by Joe Flores and produced by Ryan Duncan Ayala.

“This summer musical production of Into the Woods caps LTGI’s 13th Season. This show is heart-warming, witty, poignant and profound all at once, and Sondheim’s wordplay is wonderful from beginning to end. Told with humor, this collection of interlocking tales is far from being a child’s musical; Sondheim’s music is always a joy and coupled with the drama and though-provoking lyrics, this is a play for all ages.” said director Joe Flores.
