Traveling Exhibit Showcases Border During Civil War, On Display at TAMIU

A traveling museum exhibit showcasing the U.S. – México border throughout the Civil War is on display at Texas A&M International University’s Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library.

The exhibition, “War & Peace on the Río Grande 1861-1867,” is currently housed in the Killam Library’s Great Room (third floor). Viewing is free and open to the community.

Curated by the Community Historical Archeology Project with Schools (CHAPS) at the University of Texas Río Grande Valley, the exhibit focuses on various aspects, events, and people regarding the U.S. – México border during this historical period.

Exhibit highlights include information on trade and commerce; Tejanos in the Union and Confederate armies; military battles and skirmishes; mannequins modeling traditional military uniforms, and more.

The exhibit has been featured throughout the South Texas region, including stops in Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Kingsville, McAllen, Zapata, and more.

It will be on display through Thursday, March 23.
