TAMIU Students Win Top Awards at 27th Annual Western Hemispheric Trade Conference

Two Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) International Business Administration doctoral students and an undergraduate Business student won cash prizes for Best Student Paper Award and Honorable Mentions at the 27th Annual Western Hemispheric Trade (WHT) Conference, recently hosted virtually and in person by TAMIU's A. R. Sanchez Jr. School of Business.

The Best Student Paper Award went to Xinhui Huang, a doctoral student. He won a $400 prize for his paper titled, "Opportunity or Challenge? Impact of Product Market Threats on a Firm’s Bankruptcy Risk."

Also, one of the Honorable Mention Awards went to Sean K. Byrne, a doctoral student. His paper is titled,  "The Debt Ceiling Crises, Political Uncertainty, Interest Group Competition." He won a $100 cash award.

The second Honorable Mention Best Paper Award by an Undergraduate Student went to Karyme Castillo Castro. Her paper is titled,  "Dove’s Marketing Strategy: How to Successfully Challenge Beauty Standards and the Perception of the Ideal Self."  She also won a cash award of $100.

All winners also received a free registration for the 2024 WHT Conference.

A total of 75 submissions were included in the Conference program in either abstract or paper form this year.

Attracting business leaders, experts, scholars and students from throughout the Western Hemisphere to TAMIU, the WHT Conference presents forums for discussions on perspectives focusing on international business and economics each year. It is co-sponsored by the Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade in partnership with Mexico's Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) Facultad de Comercio, Administración y Ciencias Sociales.
