A Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) administrator was recently named to serve on a statewide committee.

Dr. Patricia Abrego, TAMIU’s director of Academic Technology and Quality Matters Coordinator, was recently appointed to serve as a member of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Learning Technology Advisory Committee (LTAC). Abrego’s term began Sept. 1, 2023, and remains effective through Aug. 31, 2026.

LTAC works to represent the diverse higher education institutions found throughout Texas, Dr. Abrego explained.

“I am honored to have been appointed to serve on the Learning Technologies Advisory Committee at THECB. This role provides me with the privilege of gaining firsthand insight into the policies under consideration that affect distance education initiatives and micro-credentialing. Additionally, it grants me the opportunity to contribute to the review of plans for upcoming degrees at other universities,” said Abrego.

LTAC focuses on policy research and discussion related to the role of learning technology in higher education. It counts on the support of its 23 voting members and one non-voting student member to offer guidance and recommendations to the THECB.

Abrego earned a doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Texas A&M – Kingsville. She also serves on the Texas A&M University System Council on Academic Technology and Innovative Education (CATIE) as the Lead in the Quality Assurance for Online Programs Taskforce, and is a member of the United States Distance Learning Association, and the Texas Distance Learning Association.
