The power of claiming one’s own destiny took center stage in Matilda the Musical, based on Roald Dahl’s immortal tale in a stage production with book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Center for the Fine and Performing Arts was home to Matilda performances  by the Laredo Theater Guild International (LTGI) as part of LTGI’s 15th Season.

The production was directed by Karol Batey and Roland Vela and produced by Henry Mejia and Jessica Verastigui.

Matilda is a little girl with astonishing intelligence, psychokinetic powers, and wit. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, Miss Honey. During her first term at school, the two forge a bond as Miss Honey begins to recognize and appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality.

Her school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves to punish those who don't abide by her rules...but Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Packed with high-energy dance numbers, catchy songs and an unforgettable star turn for a young actress, Matilda The Musical is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike were thrilled, and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

LTGI is a 501c3 nonprofit community-based theater organization presenting a season of quality theatrical productions at Texas A&M International University’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts and at Laredo College’s Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Foundation Center.

LTGI productions include classical and contemporary dramas, comedies, musicals, and single performer shows, selected from among known Broadway, Off-Broadway and Regional Theater works. LTGI aims to provide relevant theatrical entertainment of the highest caliber, while growing and developing the local performer, production, audience, and patron communities.

LTGI partners with local institutions to present productions to the public.
