TAMIU Signs MOUs with Nuevo Laredo Schools to Affirm Longstanding, Beneficial Collaborations

Fast on the heels of an historic Fall 2025 enrollment of 9,000+ students, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has further underscored the International element of its name with the signing of a renewed series of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with a select group of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, México-based English language high schools.
The three schools: Colegio Royal, Instituto América de Estudios Superiores, and the Irish International Institute of Nuevo Laredo, were recognized in signing ceremonies held at TAMIU last week.
Directors Colegio Royal: Dr. Mónica Lamar González; Instituto America: Lic. Andres Ponce Diaz and Irish International School: Lic. Maricarmen Cortes Aguirre, and their students participated in separate ceremonies including the Honorable Juan Carlos Mendoza Sánchez, Consul General of México in Laredo.
TAMIU president Dr. Christopher Maynard said the MOUs renew longstanding collaborations that have been beneficial to the University and to the region.
“International is in our name: Texas A&M International University. It is also in our DNA. We are a nationally ranked, regionally focused University with a rich and proud history of delivering transformative educational opportunities that change the trajectory of students and their families in South Texas, Northern México, and beyond.
“TAMIU offers an outstanding university experience, delivered daily by a gifted and global faculty leading 55-degree programs at bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. Since the signing of our first MOU agreements with these Nuevo Laredo schools over 10 years ago, we have seen hundreds of students from these schools chose to continue their education at TAMIU, distinguishing themselves with their academic excellence, discipline, and leadership inside and outside the classroom. Their international presence has deeply enriched our University community. We are honored to renew our commitment and deepen our collaboration with these outstanding schools in Nuevo Laredo,” Dr. Maynard said.
Juan G. García, Jr., TAMIU vice president for enrollment management, affirmed the international bonds that the MOUs help strengthen.
“Laredo and Nuevo Laredo are two cities but one united community. We may be geographically divided by a river, but we are connected by our people, our history, and our shared desire to see our region thrive. This agreement reaffirms that unbreakable bond, strengthening the educational and cultural collaboration that has defined this region for generations...and will do so for generations to come,” García explained.
Maynard concurred, noting that the renewal of the MOUs are also taking place against an historic moment in the University’s storied life.
“This year, TAMIU proudly celebrates 55 years of academic excellence, growth and history, and we do so at an especially historic moment -- our Fall 2025 semester has set a record enrollment with more than 9,000 students, establishing TAMIU as one of the fastest-growing universities in Texas. Our commitment remains firm: to be an accessible, affordable, and exceptional university for students on both sides of the border and throughout our region. We have over 100 students from these institutions enrolled at TAMIU this Fall. We are proud of all that we have accomplished together, and even more excited for what we will continue to build in the years ahead,” he said.
The MOUs articulate educational and cultural collaborations between the schools, including campus visits, parental information sessions, academic evaluation and guidance, teacher training and professional development, innovation and community collaborations including summer camps and observation programs, and participation in year-round University events.
