Environmental Policy

In accordance with our mission of teaching, research, and service, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is committed to conducting all of our activities as responsible environmental stewards.

We commit to protecting our assets, respecting the health and safety of our community, maintaining strict accountability for the natural resources entrusted to TAMIU and promoting educational activities that enhance environmental awareness, safety, and action.

The entire TAMIU community is committed to conducting our affairs to best:

  • Conserve, protect, and maintain our natural South Texas resources, with special concern for our TAMIU fauna and flora;
  • Safeguard Laredo's environmental health and safety;
  • Encourage the purchase of renewable, reusable, recyclable and recycled materials;
  • Reduce risk associated with the use of hazardous substances;
  • Minimize the generation of wastes;
  • Promote strategies to reuse and recycle;
  • Ensure that individuals are informed about environmental and health issues;
  • Inspire environmental research and assessment;
  • Support environmentally responsible teaching, research and outreach;
  • Provide open communication on environmental issues, with special focus on campus initiatives;
  • Recognize the need to incorporate environmentally friendly standards into all strategic planning efforts;
  • Advocate careful stewardship of critical water resources in our arid region;
  • Comply with applicable local, state, national environmental laws and regulations.
