CHEM 4409
Chemical Genetics
Four semester hours.
Discussion of current approaches to isolate ("clone") genes, to make genes banks, and to analyze and manipulate gene expression both in vivo and in vitro systems. The use of recombinant DNA techniques is illustrated by critically reading landmark scientific communications. Laboratory work involves one major project, the isolation and preliminary characterization of a chromosomal piece of DNA. Prerequisite: CHEM 2425 and BIOL 3451 or permission of instructor. Cross-listed with BIOL 4409. Credit cannot be given for both BIOL 4409 and CHEM 4409. Lab fee: $30.00
