Literacy and Language Acquisition
Three semester hours. (FL/SP)
This course will focus on the critical multicultural perspectives on the acquisition and development of reading and writing of young children who represent bilingual multicultural backgrounds. Emphasis on the complexities of second language acquisition and development of the ways in which teachers can help language learners in the process of acquiring the language skills needed for schooling and academic success will be emphasized. Prerequisites: Admission to College of Education, 2.7 overall grade point average, and a 2.7 grade point average in the area of specialization. Co-requisite: EDCI 3301.
