In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which started on Sept 15 and
continues through Oct 15, the University will be presenting a
Hispanic Heritage Film Festival. The films being shown are Love in
the Time of Cholera on Monday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student
Center Theater (SC 236); Paulina on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m;
Cabeza de Vaca on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m; Maquilapolis on
Thursday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m; and Fresa y Chocolate on Friday,
Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. All films will be shown at the Student Center
Theater, Room 236."This free event is made possible by a U.S.
Department of Education Title VI grant," said Lisa Gardner Flores,
Visiting Assistant Professor for the Department of Language and
Literature. The films were chosen through a committee supported by
the Title VI Grant from the U.S. Department of Education and
Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language Program
(UISFL). A Hispanic Studies doctoral student with a concentration
in Bilingualism/Biculturalism, Flores believes this is a great
opportunity for students to have some fun and gain knowledge
about the Hispanic community."I think it is an excellent
opportunity to not only enjoy watching quality films in the comfort
of the Student Center Auditorium, but I also hope that it provokes
ongoing discussions about the rich heritage of the Hispanic
community," she said.
