BASE STEM Application
WHAT IS BASE?
BASE stands for Building Academic Success Early for STEM. This is a series of workshops designed for selected first time freshman and transfer students who wish to enroll in a STEM degree program at TAMIU, starting from Fall 2024 and looking to improve their learning skills to excel in their STEM degree program. This workshop series is focused on improving your basic mathematics skills and basic science concepts required for your college classes while providing one-to-one mentoring for effective learning strategies.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
First time freshman and transfer students who are not college ready based on their Texas Success Initiative Mathematics and Science scores.
Students who aspire to enter a STEM and wish to improve their learning skills.
HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?
This is a year-long program, and the workshops will be held throughout the fall and spring semesters. Selected students will be assigned to a STEM Faculty Mentor and will meet with their mentor as needed.
WHAT DO YOU GET FROM ATTENDING THIS PROGRAM?
- You will improve your basic mathematics and science knowledge required for college courses Mathematics- algebra skills and science-biology core concepts academic assistance.
- You will improve your critical thinking, creative thinking, communicating and collaborating skills that help you to learn and be successful in college and beyond for your future career
- You will be assigned to a faculty mentor who will support you on one-to-one basis with your learning needs
- You will be eligible to receive a $500.00 scholarship upon completion of the fall and spring semester sessions.
