Teacher of the Year
We are thrilled to announce that the Unidos Para Texas Bilingual Education Conference awarded Teacher of the Year Award to Priscilla Mendoza!
Priscilla Mendoza
Priscilla Mendoza earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Bilingual Education focus (EC–6) from Texas A&M International University. She has been a dedicated educator at Sanchez Ochoa Elementary for the past six years, teaching a range of grade levels including Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade.
Throughout her teaching career, she has recognized language as a major barrier for many students. To better support English Language Learners, she has attended numerous professional development opportunities, including the TAMIU Bilingual Conference, where she learned effective strategies to help bridge the language gap in her classroom.
She is committed to creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Through successful Donors Choose projects and the Hochman Grant, she has secured essential classroom resources such as headphones, seating cushions, and leveled readers.
Her teaching philosophy centers on building a welcoming space where students’ strengths are celebrated and their needs are met with care and innovation. Her dedication was recently recognized through a nomination for the Unidos Para Texas Teacher of the Year — an honor that reflects the impact of her work in the classroom.
