About

Dr. Susan Scoville Walker is a Professor and the Director of the Canseco School of Nursing, Texas A&M International University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Music from Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota, a Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing from Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts, and a PhD in Preventive Medicine and Community Health from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She was drawn to community mental health nursing through her experience with the Peace Corps in Brazil. After working in both clinical and educational settings in Boston and Galveston, she was recruited as a member of the founding faculty of the Canseco School of Nursing of Texas A&M International University. Over the past ten years, the school has achieved national acclaim for the outstanding success of its graduates and for success in obtaining private and governmental grant support for its programs. Dr. Walker is very active in health initiatives in Laredo and northern Mexico and serves on the editorial board of the Revista latinoamericana de enfermagem. She received an award for "exemplary public service and community building" from the Texas A&M University system and the Zaffirini Award for leadership and scholarship from Texas A&M International University.
