Transfer To TAMIU
International students who have attended a U.S. SEVP approved school and wish to transfer to TAMIU must fill out the SEVIS Transfer In Form to initiate the transfer process.

Transfer Out of TAMIU
F-1 students planning to transfer out from TAMIU to another school in the U.S. must follow an immigration transfer process in order to maintain valid immigration status. Follow the steps below to initiate the transfer out process:
- Obtain admission at the new school
- Submit the Departure Form to International Engagement
- Attach a copy of your admission letter or proof of admission to this form.
- International Engagement will release your record electronically to the new school on the last day of the current term.
- On the release date, the new school will be able to issue an I-20 for transfer. Once the transfer is initiated TAMIU will no longer have access to your SEVIS record. You would need to contact your new school regarding your I-20 issuance.
- Visit your new school's International Student Office to complete the transfer. The transfer must be completed no later than 15 days from the start date on the new school's I-20.
- This form, and the transfer of your SEVIS record, does not end your enrollment at TAMIU. Please visit with your department and/or the Office of the University Registrar (ZSC 121) to cancel or withdraw from the current or future semesters.
- You must stop on-campus employment immediately the day before your SEVIS release date.
Transfer Release Date
The transfer release date will be the last day of the last registered semester or summer. If a different release date is requested, please discuss this with a Designated School Official (DSO) in International Engagement.
To qualify for a transfer, you must meet the following requirements:
- The start date at your new school must be within 5 months of your "transfer out" date in or your program completion, whichever is earlier. For students authorized for post-completion OPT, the new program start date must be within 5 months of your SEVIS "transfer out" date or the end of the OPT authorization, whichever is earlier. If the period of time between programs is longer than 5 months, your SEVIS record does not need to be transferred. Your new school will issue a new initial I-20 and new SEVIS number.
- You must currently be maintaining F-1 status.
- If you have already graduated, you must be within your 60-day grace period.
