TAMIU Welcomes A&M System for Pathways Research Symposium This Weekend
On Nov. 13-14, the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) campus will be home to an additional 525 student and faculty participants in the 7th Annual Texas A&M University System Pathways Student Research Symposium.
This is the first time the Pathways Symposium is held at TAMIU. It will feature over 350 academic presentations on diverse topics. Undergraduate and graduate students from throughout the A&M System’s 11 member campuses and comprehensive health science center will attend. Over a year in the planning, the event is being hosted by TAMIU’s Office of Graduate Studies and Research.
TAMUS Pathways Research Symposiums bring together current graduate students, promising undergraduates and faculty in all disciplines to share their research outcomes and innovative approaches to staying abreast of their communities.
Dr. Jeff Brown, Symposium organizer and TAMIU dean of Graduate Studies and Research, said TAMIU is honored to host the prestigious statewide academic event.
“The TAMIU administration, faculty and students are honored to be hosting the 7th Annual Texas A&M University System Pathways Student Research Symposium, and we all look forward to learning about the diverse student research taking place at our A&M System institutions, ” Dr. Brown said.
Undergraduate and graduate students from A&M System universities and the Health Science Center submit abstracts for poster or oral presentations from their current or past research projects. Awards are given for first, second and third place in undergraduate, masters and doctoral categories.
The Conference begins Friday, Nov. 13 with registration at noon, followed by lunch. Sessions for Agriculture, Business and Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Social Sciences-Humanities, Computer Science and Education will be held from 3-6 p.m. in various sites on campus.
A dinner for participants is scheduled from 6-8:30 p.m. with performances by various TAMIU fine and performing arts music ensembles and a lecture by Dr. David S. Gorfein on “Meaning Selection: On the Interaction of Experience and Contact.”
Saturday registration begins at 8 a.m. with breakfast from 8- 9 a.m. Sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and include environmental sciences, life sciences and physical sciences.
Entertainment featuring modern, Spanish and Mexican dance will be offered in the University’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.
A closing ceremony will take place from noon-1 p.m. with door prizes and Conference Awards being presented.
The A&M System educates more than 115,000 students and reaches another 15 million people through service each year. With nearly 27,000 faculty and staff, the A&M System has a physical presence in 250 of the state’s 254 counties and a programmatic presence in every Texas county. In 2008, externally funded research brought in almost $676 million to help drive the state’s economy.
