For over five years, the Texas A&M International University Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium has delighted audiences—young and old—in English, Spanish, and even rock ‘n’ roll. To celebrate its anniversary, the LBV Planetarium has scheduled many events, including the Laredo premiere of “Attack of the Space Pirates,” Saturday, May 1 starting at 11 a.m.

General admission to shows is $5 and $4 for children, seniors and TAMIU students, staff and alumni.
There is no fee for the other scheduled events.

“Our newest show is the first action-adventure space show that we’ve shown at the LBV Planetarium and it’s one that is sure to appeal to the whole family, including young teenagers,” said Gerardo A. Perez, director, LBV Planetarium.

“Attack of the Space Pirates” is about a band of pirates searching for powerful alien technology to use against the universe. Only one valiant ship, the Intrepid, can keep the pirates from total space domination. Show times are 11:30 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.

“We will also have lots of games, prizes, hands-on activities, face paintings, a pirate costume contest, along with many other surprises throughout the celebration. In commemoration of Space Day, we will have a special presentation of one of our most popular shows, ‘Bella Gaia: a Poetic Vision of Earth from Space,’ ” Pérez added.
