Last TAMIU Planetarium Camp July 23 Offers 'Far Out' Summer Experience

Texas A&M International University’s Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium has been offering fun and mind-stimulating camps this summer on topics like rocket science and planet composition.

One more camp, "Far Out…What is Out There?" remains and begins July 23 and costs $15. Hours are 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

"Far Out ... What is Out There?" focuses on what makes a planet an Earth-like planet. Students will explore extra solar planets, dwarf planets, comets, asteroids, and black holes.

Gerardo Pérez, Planetarium director, says sessions are developed using National Science Education standards that include learning objectives for grades K-4 and 5-8. They contain math, technology and English Language components, he added.

“Everything offered in this summer's campus has been based on student age,” Pérez said, “Since children are out of school for the summer, these camps have helped keep their minds busy and retaining the information that they have been learning in their classrooms throughout the year.”
