This Fall, an innovative weekend program offered by Texas A&M International University’s College of Education is focused on providing a Master Technology Teacher Certificate.

TAMIU associate professor Cathy Guerra said the offering is responsive to the need for high-quality, personalized and accessible instruction for today’s classroom.

“This is a direct response to the needs of today’s instructor who must be technology-savvy and productive to engage their students fully.  Most don’t have an extensive amount of time available to them to develop and maintain these vital teaching strengths so the Weekend College is an ideal format for them,” Dr. Guerra said.

Students will complete nine semester credit hours in one semester by attending the weekend offerings scheduled  Fridays-Sundays.  Class times are Fridays from  6-10 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 2-6 p.m. This fall, three successive classes will be offered on weekends Aug. 26-Sept. 19;  Sept. 24-Oct. 10 and Oct. 15-Oct. 31.

“It’s really a great way to elevate your technology profile and have hands-on, face-to-face instruction with a group of  your peers at a pace that’s ideally compressed to meet today’s hectic schedules,” Guerra noted.

Students interested in the program are required to have completed 24 semester hours of coursework.  Information on requirements is available from the University’s online catalog, located at: http://www.tamiu.edu/catalog/current/master-tech-tchr-cert.shtml

In addition to the Master Technology Teacher Certificate, successful completion will also allow students to apply the weekend program courses towards a graduate minor in Education if fully admitted to a TAMIU College of Education graduate program at the time of enrollment in the course.
