Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is ranked fourth among the “Top 100 Best Bang for the Buck” rankings of Southern Universities, according to Washington Monthly Magazine’s publication The Other College Guide: A Roadmap for the Right School for You.

The distinction is also shared by seven other Texas A&M University System campuses that scored in the Top 100. Texas A&M University College Station was ranked second. Prairie View A&M University came in at 21, Texas A&M University-Commerce at 22, Texas A&M University-Kingsville at 40, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi at 83 and Tarleton State University at 98.

The rankings measure the schools that are the best value based on “net price,” which the guide explains is affordability and how well the universities do graduating students.

The Guide calculates TAMIU’s net price at $1,820, or $12,806 less than third-ranked University of Texas at Austin ($14,636).

TAMIU President Dr. Ray Keck said the ranking is impressive.

“We’ve just reported a 14.6% increase in our Spring term enrollment to 6,884 students, and an 11% increase in Semester Credit Hours, so it’s truly gratifying to have our efforts to keep higher education accessible for students recognized. We keep costs low with innovative programs like flex scheduling and fixed rate tuition -- both of which have been enthusiastically embraced by our students. And, of course, it’s also great to find our efforts help lead and keep us in good company with seven of our System member universities,” Dr. Keck said.

He encouraged the community to find out more about “The International U” by attending the “Discover TAMIU” event Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“It will be a special day to celebrate all things TAMIU in a family-friendly event focused on opening doors and minds to the importance of higher education,” he noted.
