TAMIU Nurses Post 100% Passing Rate on Licensure Exam
Bachelor of Science in Nursing December 2019 graduates of Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) College of Nursing and Health Sciences have posted an enviable accomplishment: 100% of the class passed the State Boards Licensure Exam.
The impressive feat by the 34 members of the class has only been accomplished once previously, said Dr. Marivic Torregosa, interim Dean of the College.
“Our pass rates are regularly in the high 95+ percent, but having a 100 percent pass rate has only been accomplished once previously, in 2002. It is a daunting examination and for every nursing candidate to pass State Boards on the first attempt is simply stunning, and attests to how well our nursing faculty prepares our nursing graduates, ” Dr. Torregosa said.
TAMIU president, Dr. Pablo Arenaz, said he is proud of the program graduates and their transformative role in preparing themselves to forge solutions to local and regional health care challenges.
“It’s especially heartening to celebrate these graduates’ remarkable accomplishment as we also celebrate our 50th Anniversary and the transformative impact that our graduates have had and continue to have. We congratulate our graduates, faculty and staff for their commitment and measurable results,” Dr. Arenaz said.
Torregosa said a number of factors are fundamental to the program’s success.
“We attribute our success to the rigor of our program, strict admission and progression policies, and the dedication to success from our nursing faculty and students,” she observed.
Torregosa added that all of the TAMIU nurses had job offers before they passed their licensure exam.
“All of them are employed, and most locally. They have job offers even before they pass their licensure exam. Our graduates are heavily recruited locally and state-wide. They are now beginning well-paying careers in nursing with health care agencies in Austin, Edinburgh, Laredo and San Antonio, among others. One of our graduates was also sworn in as a top recruit for the U.S. Navy,” she observed.
Torregosa said the College of Nursing and Health Sciences’ Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing is growing and launching a new program this Fall.
“We have completely online programs such as the RN to BSN, a Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration, and in the fall 2020 we will be adding a Family Nurse Practitioner program,” she explained.
