In a video message to Class of 2020 candidates today, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) president Dr. Pablo Arenaz announced the University’s plans to honor Spring and Summer candidates for graduation in Commencement Exercises tentatively scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 at the Sames Auto Arena.

Acknowledging the University’s challenging Spring Semester, Dr. Arenaz praised students’ perseverance.

“This has been the most challenging semester that we have ever shared here at TAMIU …but we are persevering… Your resilience has been awesome. For you, the Senior Class of 2020, our 50th Anniversary Class, you have  seen your last semester delivered online and the traditions and celebrations that have always framed the senior year experience either cancelled and postponed. We know this has been deeply disappointing for you --  as it has been for us,” he said.

“So, I think we’re all due for some good news and a chance to be together.  And so, I am happy to announce that we will gather together to celebrate your success and your personal perseverance with Commencement Exercises Thursday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m. at the Sames Auto Arena.

“We want Spring and Summer 2020 graduates to come together in a special Commencement Exercise to celebrate your remarkable accomplishment. You’ve completed your studies here, and will get to wish colleagues and friends well…and move on to new experiences.  As part of our 50th Anniversary year, we hope this Celebration will be  something you’ll  always remember,” he added.

Arenaz said the University is committed to the August ceremony, but said cautions are always due.

“Our commitment on this is clear, but I  must caution that we will not proceed should public health conditions force us to revisit this plan. We will continue to monitor and post updates on our dedicated Commencement website at  https://www.tamiu.edu/commencement/

In closing, Arenaz said he is looking forward to the August Commencement Exercises.

“Class of 2020, I look forward to handing you your diploma and congratulating each one of you on your success. Best wishes to you and all who have helped you on your important journey.

Be Safe and Be Well,” he said.

Registration for Maymester, Summer and Fall 2020 courses at TAMIU is now underway. Maymester and Summer courses will be offered online.  A catalog containing the  nearly 100 TAMIU undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs is at http://catalog.tamiu.edu
