A long-awaited opportunity for Texas A&M International University 2020 graduates and 2021 candidates for graduation  to celebrate their milestone accomplishments with in-person Commencement Ceremonies took place Friday and Saturday, May 14 - 15, 2021 at the  Sames Auto Arena.

Some 1,250  students, representing 28 countries participated in four ceremonies scheduled Friday at 4  and 7 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Candidates for graduation ranged from 78 years of age to 19.  Some 23 members of the combined Classes of 2020 and 2021  earned two degrees simultaneously.

TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said the University offered graduates and candidates for graduation a Commencement experience respectful of social distancing, masking and gathering restrictions.  Students provided insight to the University through an online survey tool.

“We know this is the cornerstone of the University completion experience for all our graduates and their families.  With the advent of the COVID-19 Pandemic, 2020 graduates did not have this opportunity and so will join their fellow graduates in  Spring 2021 ceremonies. Student insight was pivotal to scheduling ceremonies respective of  event capacity.  We worked closely with City of Laredo officials and Sames Auto Arena management to develop an  approved plan focused on a  shared priority commitment to safety and wellness,” Dr. Arenaz said.

The ceremonies were livestreamed and divided among the University’s five Colleges and Schools:
