TAMIU Joins Leading HSI Partners in Virtual Career Fair Thursday, Feb. 24

Hispanic Serving Institutions

For the second year, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will join 14 of the nation’s leading Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) for the HSI Career Collaborative Virtual Fair Thursday, Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

TAMIU director of Career Services Yelitza Howard said over 170 top employers will participate in the virtual event, offering one-on-one and group sessions, providing impressive employment and career growth opportunities.  The HSI Virtual Career Fair will be presented via Handshake, an online recruiting platform for higher education students and alumni.

“Employers were impressed with Fair participants last year and we’ve seen a 20% increase this year in participating employers.  It’s gratifying to know that this increase will further fuel the HSI Career Collaborative’s mission to promote social mobility and economic prosperity in underserved communities by recruiting, retaining, and graduating students while creating career growth opportunities for students and alumni,” Howard said.

She shared some of the participating employers and noted that others are joining the growing list daily.

“Among our confirmed employers are Accenture Federal Services, Autodesk, Amazon, Doctor’s Hospital of Laredo, H-E-B, Qualtrics, National Security Agency, Square & Cash App, The J.M. Smucker Company, Toyota, Union Pacific Railroad, US Food and Drug Administration, Walmart Corporate, WarnerMedia, Wells Fargo, Yahoo and more. The HSI Virtual Career Fair is also attended and supported by AbbVie, CrowdStrike, Inc., Allogene Therapeutics, Meta, Pepsico, Southwest Airlines, and Synopsys Inc. All employers are hiring for full-time, and part-time positions, and internships.

She explained the process for participation.

“TAMIU students and alumni interested in participating must visit Handshake to register and secure a spot in a one-on-one or group session with employers that meet their career goals. Space is limited to meet with employers and available on a first-come-first-served basis, so we urge everyone to register soon.  As our state, nation and world move toward recovery from the Pandemic, employment opportunities are truly dynamic,” she advised.

She noted TAMIU has also partnered with the HSI Career Collaborative to offer a new scholarship to students. Applications are open through June 30, 2022.

Other institutions joining TAMIU Feb. 24 for the virtual, one-day event include California State University-Bakersfield; California State University-Dominguez Hills; California State University-Fresno; California State University-San Bernardino; California State University-Stanislaus; Florida International University; Texas A&M University-San Antonio; The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; The University of Texas at San Antonio; University of California-Merced; University of Illinois at Chicago; University of the Incarnate Word; and Lehman College.
