End of Semester Performances Highlight May at TAMIU’s CFPA

An end-of-semester series of live music performances will be offered center stage this May at Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA).

All are free and open to the public and begin at 7:30 p.m.

The upcoming events scheduled are:

  • Keyboard Studio Recital – Tuesday, May 3 in the CFPA Recital Hall
  • Silent Movie Saturday – Saturday, May 7 at 3 p.m. in the CFPA Recital Hall 

The Keyboard Recital features seven piano students under the direction of Drs. Friedrich Gechter and Tatiana Gorbunova. The recital includes a mix of classical and contemporary styles, including a rendition of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’

The Silent Movie, the classic “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” will feature live accompaniment on the Sharkey Corrigan Organ by University Organist, Dr. Colin Campbell.

While events are offered at no cost, donations are gladly accepted at the door to support scholarships for TAMIU fine and performing arts students.

TAMIU’s College of Arts and Sciences, department of Fine and Performing Arts offers a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Music in Performance. Students can also pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Double Major. A music minor is also available.

A minor in Dance is also available. Students may also take Dance courses for elective credit. Courses are offered in Ballet, Ballet Folklórico, Flamenco, Modern/Contemporary, Choreography, Dance Conditioning and more. 

A Bachelor of Arts in Art, as well as a B.A. in Art with All-Level Certification. Minors in Art History and Studio Art are currently offered. Several courses are available to students including courses in Art History, Ceramics, Design, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking and more.

Registration for Summer Sessions and the Fall Semester 2022 is now underway.
