Returning for the fourth year in a row, the critically acclaimed Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT) comes to Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) on Friday, March 3, at the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre at 8 p.m.

Admission to the event is free and open to the public. The performance is hosted by the University’s College of Arts and Sciences. Donations in support of dance scholarships are gratefully accepted.

Founded in 1976, DBDT is the oldest continuously operating professional dance company in Dallas. The ensemble, a contemporary modern dance company, comprises professional, full-time dancers performing modern, jazz, ethnic and spiritual works by nationally and internationally known choreographers.

Members of the dance company will also meet with TAMIU students and provide a master class during their visit.

Founded in 1976, DBDT has focused on creating and producing contemporary modern dance at the highest level of artistic excellence through performances and educational programs that bridge cultures and reach diverse communities.

Recognized as the ninth-largest contemporary modern dance company in the United States, DBDT has performed worldwide for over 4.5 million patrons and some 2.7 million students across 31 states and 16 countries.

Previously, the dance company has held performances at the Olympics and various prestigious venues, including the Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and Broadway.

Since the COVID-19 Pandemic, DBDT performances have been viewed virtually in over 30 countries. The dance company has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts and received the Texas Medal of the Arts Award for Arts Education In 2017.
