First-time freshmen admitted to Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) by February 1 can now access a newly expanded world of Automatic Freshman Scholarship Program opportunities.

Students meeting the criteria can receive four-year automatic scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $30,000. These non-transferable awards apply to all four years of tuition and fees at TAMIU, explained TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz.

“With this expanded opportunity we truly ramp up our commitment to providing a broad range of students and their families the scholarship support they have earned to help secure their higher education dreams. For over 50 years, TAMIU’s mission has been focused on making higher education accessible, affordable, and exceptional. I am certain students, and their families will be excited by this expanded opportunity and the security these scholarships can provide in financing their University degrees and a measurably brightened future,” Dr. Arenaz said.

Arenaz said the expanded Automatic Freshman Scholarship Program has already enabled the University to add 2000 selected students since its inception in 2017. He noted students need only fulfill one of the requirements in five set scholarship award categories. The requirements are driven by one of the following: 1) high school ranking 2) SAT Scores or 3) ACT Scores.

“For example, students seeking the four-year Discovery Award, valued at $15,000, could be considered with their high school Top 7 - 8% ranking, their 1210+ SAT score, or their 25+ ACT score.

Those seeking the four-year Presidential Award, valued at $30,000, could be considered with a high school ranking in the Top 1 - 2%, an SAT of 1360+, or an ACT of 29+,” he explained, “The remaining scholarship levels are the Achievement Award ($25,000), the Pride Award ($20,000), and the Dustdevil Award ($10,000).”

Local and area counselors are aware of the expanded scholarship opportunities for freshmen at TAMIU and have been enthusiastically referring students to them.

“The TAMIU Automatic Freshman Scholarship Program excels at providing a truly remarkable opportunity for students to secure a University degree that recognizes their dedication, their abilities, and ushers in their best future. Our faculty, administration, and staff are honored to share in their journey,” Dr. Arenaz concluded.
