Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is entering into an innovative new partnership with Harmony Public Schools (HPS) with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 11:30 a.m. in TAMIU’s Student Center Ballroom.

TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said the MOU paves the way to develop and expand a partnership between TAMIU and HPS that supports college acceptance, matriculation, and completion for HPS students.

“This is an innovative partnership that provides a broad spectrum of opportunities for collaboration, support, and shared initiatives focused on helping students to succeed at the University level,” Dr. Arenaz noted.

The partnership identifies TAMIU as a “Harmony College Partner,” with shared objectives including opportunities to meet with HPS students and alumni during Fall outreach efforts including visits and hosted events on campus; targeted strategies to help students address the challenges of college attendance and securing success; helping students to understand the value and importance of higher education at a Harmony College Partner, and designating HPS alumni college success coaches who are attending University to help guide and support HPS college fellows.

TAMIU vice president for Student Engagement Juan Gilberto García, Jr., said the University is looking forward to welcoming more HPS students to its campus.

“TAMIU has already seen the energy and quality of HPS students, and their successes here at TAMIU.   We are committed to providing an environment that celebrates, educates, and empowers students to embrace their power to succeed, to graduate, and to move on to careers of meaning and reward,” García said.

Selcuk Bakir, Harmony Public Schools-South Texas Area superintendent, said the new partnership with TAMIU provides a collaborative framework that is beneficial to both entities and helps students plan their path to higher education.

“As the Area Superintendent of Harmony Public Schools South Texas, I am delighted with our MOU with Texas A&M International University, which promotes college readiness, emphasizes the value of higher education at Harmony College Partner, and introduces HPS alumni coaches from the University to support our college fellows,” Mr. Bakir observed.
