The Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) has appointed Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) College of Education instructional associate professor Dr. Cynthia Sosa as president of its Board of Directors.

Dr. Sosa officially took office on April 1, 2025, and began her duties at the Board’s first meeting  April 11. She is the first Latina president from South Texas to hold the office since its inception in 1980.

Sosa brings a wealth of experience to TCEA, having served as a teacher, trainer, instructional technology specialist, and higher education faculty member throughout her distinguished career. She first joined the Board as an area director in April of 2020 and has faithfully served the organization’s network of 85,000 members ever since.

She offered an assessment of the TCEA Board’s changing role.

“In the last few years, the Board of Directors has discussed at length its role, considering the growth TCEA has undergone with its content offerings and membership. We have shifted our priorities to now focus on governance, continuing to have discussions and take action to streamline it. This means updating policies, Board member roles, and the nomination and election process,” explained Dr. Sosa.

Sosa outlined her plan of action for the Board.

“This year, we will develop a strategic plan for the next five years, which will give direction to the Executive Director and staff... There are also other conversations that will transpire about TCEA’s potential impact in the state, nation, and around the globe,” she observed.

Starting her sixth year on the Board, Sosa says she is proud to serve TCEA’s membership in this new capacity.

“I am proud of the work we have accomplished to continue to steer TCEA towards success. I am honored to be in this position and do not take it lightly. I believe in contributing my skills and expertise to support TCEA's continued growth and impact,” she explained.

"I am so excited about Dr. Sosa's presidency,” said Lori Gracey, executive director of TCEA, “She brings a rich background in higher education and research that will fit in well with the organization’s focus on research-based instructional practices PreK-16. She is also well versed in how to build a strong team to solve potential challenges — it's going to be a great year for TCEA!," Gracey noted.

TAMIU’s Dean of the College of Education, Dr. James O’Meara, said the College is excited about Dr. Sosa’s selection and her contribution to advancing TCEA.

“Dr. Sosa has a stellar reputation at TAMIU and is much respected by her students here. Her considerable research and hands-on instructional practices experience will be of tremendous value to the TCEA.  We applaud her selection and are eager to hear of her impact and certain success,” Dr. O’Meara said.

Sosa joined the TAMIU faculty in 2018. She holds her Doctor of Education from Concordia University-Portland and a Master of Science and Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies, both from TAMIU. Among awards she has earned at TAMIU are the College of Education’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year, 2022; the TAMIU Instructional Technology Excellence 2022-2023 Award, and Advisor of the Year for Kappa Delta Epsilon, Delta Iota Chapter.

TCEA is a nonprofit, member-based organization that has supported the use of technology in education since 1980.  Its primary focus is on integrating technology into the PreK-16 environment and providing its members with cutting-edge knowledge and resources through conferences, online and print publications, workshops and collaborations between higher education and business.
