TAMIU Ranked 3rd in Nation Among Best Four-Year Hispanic-Serving Colleges by Washington Monthly

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has once again been recognized by Washington Monthly Magazine’s 2025 College Guide, this year as #3 in the nation in its new Best Four-Year Hispanic-Serving Colleges ranking.
TAMIU also earned a #2 ranking for Lowest Net Price in the South and repeated as one of the nation's Top Ten-ranked Southern Colleges in its "Best Bang for the Buck" category, which reviewed 100 institutions. TAMIU has appeared in the Top Ten since its inception.
Ranked #10, TAMIU also earned recognition as #4 for Affordability in the South, and #5 for Lowest Student Loan Debt in the South.
Of the ranking as #3 in the nation for Hispanic-Serving Colleges, the highest-ranked of A&M campuses, the Guide’s authors observed, “Texas A&M International University is in third place, with an incredibly low price of $3,833 and a graduation rate for Hispanic students equal to that of the general population.”
TAMIU interim president Juan J. Castillo said the rankings underscore TAMIU’s commitment to being Accessible, Affordable, and Exceptional. He believes the top ranking as a Hispanic-Serving College reaffirms the University’s historic mission.
“We are always pleased to see that the TAMIU experience we deliver daily is appreciated and valued. We believe these rankings, coupled with the most affordable tuition of any South Texas university, have helped drive our enrollment milestone this semester of over 9,000 students, clearly delivering on our core, founding mission. We’re most proud of receiving recognition for our graduation rates, however. These rankings are also notable because they value experiences like public service and research, which TAMIU students, faculty, and staff uphold with pride,” Castillo observed.
Since 2005, the Washington Monthly College Guide has ranked colleges based on what they do for the country, according to Guide authors. Many consider the Guide an answer to U.S News & World Report, which relies on measures of wealth, exclusivity, and prestige.
Washington Monthly surveys over 1,400 public, private nonprofit, and for-profit colleges and its rankings are based on their contribution to the public good in four broad categories: access, affordability, outcomes, and promoting public service.
Other A&M System campuses and their overall rankings included A&M (#18), A&M-Texarkana (#19), Prairie View A&M University (#29), East Texas A&M (#31), Tarleton University (#44), West Texas A&M (#48) and A&M-Kingsville (#52).
