Washington, D.C.  -- The American Academy of Nursing has announced election results including  that of Texas A&M International University Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Dr. Elda Ramírez,  to the Academy’s Board of Directors.

“I am excited to recognize these volunteer leaders who will assume key roles on the Academy’s Board of Directors and committees,” said Academy President Linda D. Scott, who shared the national news.

Dr. Ramírez, who joined TAMIU this Fall, is an emergency nurse practitioner and an international leader in the field.  She has experience driving change for both staff and patients through the creation of educational programs, recognition of the Certified Emergency Nurse Practitioner  designation, and development of clinical practice guidelines and competencies for the specialty.

In advancing the specialty, Ramírez notably contributed to Texas legislation that utilizes funds from traffic violations to educate emergency trauma nurse practitioners to practice in rural and critical access facilities. She is also the founder of the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners.

Inducted as an Academy Fellow in 2017, Ramírez has supported the organization through leadership on multiple committees, such as the Living Legends Task Force, as well as acting as a moderator during the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference.

She said she’s honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve the Academy.

“Being elected to serve this renowned group is a career highlight and one I am honored and humbled by.  As we all know, being at the table ensures we are part of the conversation.  I am delighted to join and contribute to the conversation, sharing in the multitude of perspectives that exist within the Academy. Together, we will continue to affirm the Academy’s mission of advancing health policy and practice,” Ramírez said.
