TAMIU Students Vote to Approve Rec Fee Increase to Maintain, Enhance Rec Sports

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) students have voted to support a Referendum to help maintain and enhance Rec Sports services.
A majority of 67.1% of students supported the measure via a three-day online voting opportunity. Prior to the vote, a series of four information forums were scheduled on different days and times to accommodate student schedules.
The decision to move ahead with the Referendum vote was led by the TAMIU Student Fee Advisory Committee, where the majority of seats are held by students.
TAMIU president Dr. Christopher Maynard praised the students’ actions and shared next steps.
“TAMIU students concur that a vibrant Rec Sports program is an important part of their University experience here. We thank them for their support and partnership. With this majority endorsement by students, we will now seek approval from our governing Texas A&M University System Board of Regents at their February 2026 meeting. If approved by the Board, the Student Rec Fee will increase by $17.00 per long semester beginning Fall 2026,” Dr. Maynard said.
Registration for TAMIU’s Wintermester and Spring 2026 begins Monday, Nov. 3, 2025 at 8 a.m.
