TAMIU Adds City of Laredo Health Dept. Naloxone Access to Campus

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is part of the City of Laredo Health Department’s expanded Naloxone Dispensary Initiative adding free public naloxone access points across the community.
At TAMIU, the Naloxone Dispensary is located at the City of Laredo Tennis Complex off 5201 University Boulevard. Another location is at the Preventive Care Services Clinic located at 6801 McPherson Road, Suite 112, boosting the total number of Laredo dispensaries from eight to ten.
TAMIU vice president for Student Engagement Rosalinda García said the addition is an important new point of access for the University and the communities it serves.
“We’re privileged to add this important point of access that can increase our TAMIU community and community-at-large’s awareness of overdose prevention, and our shared commitment to emergency readiness,” García said.
The City of Laredo Health Department launched the Naloxone Dispensary Initiative in 2023 to ensure residents could quickly and easily obtain naloxone (Narcan), a lifesaving medication that can reverse an opioid overdose. The program has since distributed 675 boxes of naloxone in 2024 and 435 boxes in 2025 to date.
The City of Laredo said this expansion continues its work to make naloxone accessible at no cost in locations easy to reach and familiar to the public. By increasing availability, the City of Laredo aims to equip individuals with the tools they need to act quickly during an emergency and help save lives, reinforcing Laredo’s overall preparedness and safety.
The Public Health Department has extended its gratitude to TAMIU and the City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Department for helping with the expansion of outreach efforts at their locations. It noted their support strengthens the reach of this initiative and helps ensure more residents have access to lifesaving resources.
